IMDb and TMDB IDs to streaming availability
If your catalog is already keyed by IMDb or TMDB, you can resolve a Watchmode title and read where it is available across 427 streaming services in 54 countries. Watchmode IDs are unique across titles and people. The API returns availability and links, not video.
What the API returns
Search
GET /v1/search/ costs 1 credit. Set search_field to imdb_id, tmdb_movie_id, tmdb_tv_id, or tmdb_person_id, and pass the id in search_value. Title results include the Watchmode id, name, type, year, imdb_id, tmdb_id, and tmdb_type. Person results include the Watchmode person id, name, imdb_id, and tmdb_id. Name search and autocomplete are the same family of calls when you do not already have an external id.
Title path
Title routes accept three identifier forms in the path. A Watchmode ID costs 1 credit. An IMDb ID such as tt0903747 costs 2 credits. A TMDB id such as movie-278 or tv-1396 costs 2 credits. The extra credit is ID resolution. Title details also add 1 credit for each append_to_response item, and the details body includes imdb_id, tmdb_id, and tmdb_type.
Availability
After you have a Watchmode ID, GET /v1/title/{title_id}/sources/ returns subscription, rent, buy, free, and TV-provider rows for the regions on your plan. Pass regions as comma-separated country codes. If you omit regions, the response uses the regions enabled for the plan. The same path accepts the IMDb or TMDB form directly, at the 2-credit price above. Link fields are described on the deep links page.
Bulk maps
title_id_map.csv maps Watchmode title IDs, IMDb IDs, and TMDB IDs and is updated daily. person_id_map.csv does the same for people. Joining those files locally avoids a resolution credit on later title calls that use the Watchmode ID.
Who it is for
Apps and data pipelines that already store IMDb or TMDB IDs and need country-by-country streaming availability, provider IDs, and links without maintaining a separate match table. Use the CSV when you are matching a whole catalog. Use search or the title path when you are resolving one id at request time.
Which plan unlocks it
- Search, the ID maps, and title reads are available on the Developer plan. Streaming sources on that plan are limited to up to 3 countries. Paid plans include streaming sources in 54 countries.
- Developer use is non-commercial and must credit and link to Watchmode.com where the data is shown. Startup, Business, and Enterprise are commercial and do not require attribution. Prices and credit allowances are on the pricing page.
- If you pass a regions value the plan does not include, the title request returns HTTP 400 and says that country is not enabled for the plan. If you omit regions, title sources include only the regions the plan has enabled.
Questions
Can I pass an IMDb ID straight to the sources endpoint?
Yes. GET /v1/title/tt0903747/sources/ uses the IMDb form and costs 2 credits. GET /v1/title/movie-278/sources/ and GET /v1/title/tv-1396/sources/ use the TMDB form and also cost 2 credits. A numeric Watchmode ID costs 1 credit.
Does search return streaming availability by itself?
No. Search returns matching titles and people, including their Watchmode, IMDb, and TMDB IDs. Availability is a title-sources call, or another title route, after that.
Which countries come back for a mapped title?
The sources response is limited to regions enabled on the plan. Developer accounts choose up to 3 countries. Paid plans include the 54 countries listed by the regions endpoint. Pass regions when you want a subset.
